Dear Spinners Members,
This is a reminder about the implementation of a “Captains Rule” which was implemented in the final basketball session in December 2020 and will continue throughout the 2021 Wheelchair Basketball season.
To provide more detail of how this will work, each week there will be captains nominated for each on-court team and only the captains are to engage with the referees for feedback related to decisions made on court.
If you have a question about a call and you are not the captain, it is essential you ask your captain to discuss this with the referee.
This change is both to 1) ensure that the Spinners Code of Conduct is adhered to at all times around displaying respect for other members, our staff and our volunteers and 2) to be consistent with the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) rules for on-court discussions with officials.
It is also consistent with the behaviour we would expect all players to display at tournaments where they will be representing Suncoast Spinners, and is what would be expected at National and International levels of competition.
As a committee we have asked the officials to ensure this change is enforced and in the instance that players are communicating with officials without going through their captain, this is a technical foul.
